Hosted by: Jennie Zesmer
dallas, TX 75230
7:00- People arrive 7:15- Hello and welcome to Zesmer's Tree of Life Shabbat! This past Wednesday, Jews all over were celebrating Tu B'Shevat, the day that marks the beginning of a "New Year for Trees." Tu B'Shevat occurs on the 15th of Shevat of the Jewish calendar. It is the season in which the earliest-blooming trees in the Land of Israel emerge from their winter sleep and begin a new fruit-bearing cycle. We mark the day of Tu B?Shevat by eating fruit, particularly from the kinds that are singled out by the Torah in its praise of the bounty of the Holy Land: grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives and dates. On this day we remember that ?man is a tree of the field? (Deuteronomy 20:19) and reflect on the lessons we can derive from our botanical analogue. A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots. ~Marcus Garvey As teens, it is easy for us to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life. Friends, guys, school; There's a lot to focus on. It is easy for us to overlook our roots. Our Judaism is what connects us, and we must work to keep that in mind. With that, we will light the candles. Candle lighting Chatzi Kaddish Rise for the Barchu Shema V?ahavta I'm sure growing up you have all heard various songs by Debbie Freidman. What would our Tree of Life service be without her classic song... It is the tree of life to them that hold fast to it and all of its supporters are happy. Shalom, Shalom (clap 4x) 3x repeat song three times Amidah (Adonai S?fatai Tiftach, Avot V?imahot, G?vurot) Shalom Rav Watch this for fun(: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74EciGdaKJE That video showed children, people that grow just the same as trees do. We can also be cut down or bumped against, and we too need healing. Let us now say the Mi Sheberach for those in need of healing. Debbie Freedman?s Mi Sheberach Aleinu Morner?s Kaddish-stand if it is your custom or if not then I suggest standing for the 6 million Kiddush Adon Olam (?) End with blessing the challah then the Kiddush L?Adonai ha-aretz u-m?lo?ah. (Psalms 24:1). The earth and all its fullness belong to God. We are the caretakers of the earth, and it is up to us to protect and preserve its beauty. Happy Tu B?shevat! Now it's time for our activity! Just like trees, we all grow up differently. We each have individual interests that fit into our lives. So tonight we will be making challah covers, trees of our own lives. Everybody use whatever materials you want and make something that truly represents who you are as an individual. Let them have time to create their own. There is one more thing we must take from tonight. Though we are all individuals, we are joined together, united by a common faith. As I said at the beginning of this service, our Judaism is what connects us and brings us all here to this huge part of our lives. We as a chapter have strong roots, and we are still growing. We are a tree, so we deserve a tree of our own lives. So here we have a challah cover to each add our fingerprints too. A tree of life for the chapter, a challah cover we can use throughout the years. Create the challah cover End at 9:00Kulanu and Shapiro Shabbat dinner and movie night

It's back! And this time, it will be bigger and better. Nervous about planning an event? Well don't be- it's easy! Only if you know what your doing, that is. This event is a mess...it was poorly planned and well...it's just not the best event. Unless you come, of course, and help save it! You will put into groups and have to complete a scavenger hunt in which you and your group members must put the pieces back together and make this event be what it was SUPPOSED to be. And, along the way, you'll be eating, singing, acting, and doing all sorts of other things...all while planning your OWN events. Sound complicated? Well, I told you this event was a mess! This is an afternoon you wont want to miss. I promise you'll get a lot out of it. Hope to see you all there!Ra'anan Chapter Recruitment and Baking Extravaganza!
